This Destroyer was a Lindbergh Blue Devil Destroyer in the beginning. A very close friend of mind served on it. The ship is a non-RC ship that took about a month to build. Material is Plastic and bass wood, Model Master paint, Testors wood and plastic glue. This ship had a FRAM change over from the older Gearing WW2 appearance. | |
Most of the ship is scratch built. I cut and sanded allot
off the deck in the beginning to make room for the new deck, superstructure,
and flight deck. I did a water check with it and it sat at the water line
just right before proceeding.
Most of the deck and superstructure is built up from bass wood and is sealed for water protection. I used some parts of the the Lindbergh kit for details. Plans were from a Co. up in Washington state , They sent me the plans and I started to work on it. The ship could have been set up for RC if my buddy had wanted, but he was happy to have it as a static model. It would take about 2 hours to convert it to RC by adding all of the RC gear that it would need. It can also be set up with a standard 2 channel radio. The Lindbergh kit is a good starter kit for any one interested in getting into RC Navy ships. It can be changed in many ways. I have done a few in the past. |

I'm always interested in helping any one that has questions
on how set up it or RC Ships in general. I've been into the hobby for a
while though I'm still learning . It's nice to be able to pass along information
and hopefully make it better and easier for someone else from what I have
learned doing it the hard way. ;-))
If you have any questions for Don, post them on the message board or contact him via email. |
