This is one of the Original Resin kits by Classic Warships.
It is not currently in production but can still be found in some modelers
unbuilt stash.. Hopefully it will be available again in the near future
as it the only 1941 Nevada Class Battleship currently made.
The hull is well cast and has plenty of detailing and has the look
and shape of the Nevada and Oklahoma Battleships as they appeared in 1941.
The hull is clean with no defects.
The Superstructure parts are pretty well cast, though the splinter
shields are a little thicker than some of the other resin kits we have
seen lately. The turrets are well done with both the triple and twin turrets
represented. The fighting tops are pretty good but you will have to supply
your own tripod mast supports as none are included. I would replace them
with brass rod.
Cast metal parts include main gun barrels, cranes, float planes, ships
boats, and many other small parts. The secondary 5" 25 cal guns leave much
to be desired and should be replaced with those available from Corsair
Armada.
Instructions are practically non existent, they nothing more than a
plan and elevation view. Specs and painting instructions are included on
another side.
Conclusions:
If you can get your hands on one of these kits for a fair price, it
might be worth it. Especially if you have a little experience and don't
mind doing a little extra fabrication. To be fair this kit was produced
in the early days and it is not fair to compare it to those that are produced
today. It is kits like this that paved the way for early builders. I hope
to see it brought up to today's current Classic Warships high standards
and released again.
