NorthStar Models has released a detail set for Imperial Japanese Navy ships, set NSA 350032, IJN Hatches. The set includes photo-etch parts to detail hatches found on Japanese warships. They don't mention which ships, but they did previously release a set of hatches for the Yamato-class battleships, so you can eliminate those. I presume they are for other battleships and cruisers.

THE PARTS | |||||
The small photo-etch fret (2 1/2 x 1 3/4) is finely etched with very thin parts, and relief etching. There are both closed and open hatches. The latter (open style) has parts to replicate a canopy over the open hatch - a really nice touch!

Instructions are a single, small (8x6) piece of paper. They show you how to assemble the various hatches, but not where they will go. As always, check your references. The directions are, however, clear and easy to follow.
CONCLUSIONS | |||||
This is a really nice set, with
really nice detail. The open hatches would be a really eye catcher
at a model show, if done right.
This is NorthStar Models set 350032, 1/350 WWII IJN Hatches. The set retails for about $8.00 USD, and is available from many of our fine sponsors. This set should really add some great detail to the big ships in your IJN scale model fleet. Highly recommended. Thanks to North Star Models for the review sample. |
