NorthStar Models has released a detail set for US Navy ships, set NSA 350020, Hatch Covers for Iowa-Class Battleships.   The set includes photo-etch parts to detail hatch covers not only on Iowa-class Battleships, but also on South Dakota and North Carolina class ships, plus New Orleans class cruisers.

THE PARTS
The photo-etch fret is finely etched with very thin parts, and relief etching.   Among the parts included on the set are hatches of various shapes and sizes - 20 different types in all.   It does appear that you can pose the hatches open or closed, since there seems to be detail on both sides, based on the way some parts fold.
Close ups of some of the fret details.
INSTRUCTIONS
Instructions are a single, small, piece of paper. Parts are shown on one side, directions on how to assemble the various  hatches is on the other side. The directions are clear and easy to follow, but you'll need references to find out which hatch goes where.
CONCLUSIONS
This another well done photo-etch set from North Star, with really nice detail.  With enough parts to detail twenty hatches of various shapes and sizes, you'll have to do some research to determine how many sets you might need to detail your US Fast Battleship.

The set retails for about $8.00 USD, and is available from many of our fine sponsors.  Highly recommend for modelers wishing to add extra detail to their US Navy Fast Battleships.

Thanks to North Star Models for the review sample.
