Trumpeter recently released their new Saratoga in prewar fit complete with a deck load of "Yellow Wings". Nice little aircraft with many separate parts. They are fine for the out-of-box model builders, but if you are reading this review, it's because you are not satisfied with that level of detail. Well fear not, Loren Perry has released another new set that will take care of all your prewar aircraft needs. This set will do one fourth (48 total) of the typical 1930's air wing.

Like the the other new releases, this one features sharp etching with relief etching used to help give a more three dimensional appearance. All the needed parts for the aircraft are included with propellers, wheels, and tail hooks. Parts for the biplanes include interplane and cabane struts as well as the above mentioned parts. Monoplanes also have antenna where appropriate.
This set will detail six each of the following aircraft:
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Antenna, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Antenna, and Wheels
Propellers, Tail Hook, Struts, and Wheels
The instructions are well written and well illustrated. They show each aircraft in profile view with notes on where the parts go. There are 3D exploded views of the kit aircraft with the photo etch parts showing where they locate. A good mix of 2D and 3D drawings that should leave no questions as to where the parts go.

This is an excellent set for any 1/700 Pre War carrier. This set is the perfect companion for the Saratoga and Lexington details sets. This set has a retail price of $7.00 US and is available direct from Gold Medal Models or wherever fine ship accessories are sold. |
