One of the most popular 1/350 scale kits is the Tamiya Enterprise CVN-65. There are many photo etch sets available for it, but one of the overlooked items has been the aircraft elevators. The ones on the kit are molded solid as if they were a plated steel deck. However on the real ship they are made with a metal grate surface that you can see through. A noticeable difference that you can now easily correct. | |
The elevators are exact matches for the plastic parts
and are complete with tie down rings and reinforcing strips plus the extended
solid plated areas on Elevator No. 2 as shown in various prototype reference
photos. These brass platforms feature perforated see-through grid work
that is unique to the Enterprise's elevators and will replace the solid
plastic parts in the Tamiya kit. Sheet plastic styrene can be used to add
underside side panels as required by using the plastic parts as guides
- or the existing side panels can be carefully cut off the plastic elevators
and transferred to the brass versions if preferred. This large set is etched
in heavy-duty .010" sheet brass and retails for $30.00 USD plus postage.
