A common weakness on most 1/350 plastic kits is the radar. Photo etch almost always improves the appearance. So what sets Alliance ModelWorks apart from the rest? Resin bases, that's what!
FRET 1 | |||||||||
The photo etch fret includes SR, SG2, SA, TDY, YE, SC-2, SK, CXAM and BM antenna parts. They are nicely detailed and assembly is pretty straightforward. It appears quite a bit of research went into these assemblies. | Click images

RESIN PARTS | |||||||||
The resin bases is what really makes this set stand out. Yes, in some cases you can carve up and remove the antennas from the plastic kits, but often the plastic is about as accurate as the over-scale plastic was. So instead an accurate resin base is provided for each antenna. Casting is first rate and they are nicely detailed.

CONCLUSIONS | |||||||||
I really like this mixed media set. Nicely etched parts combined with nicely cast bases makes this a great option for upgrading your US Navy WWII ships. This is set number # NW35068 WWII USN Ship borne Radar Set (With Bases) for $20.00 US. A price that's hard to beat. Check out the other sets on the Alliance ModelWorks Website. |
