1/700 The West Wings 3 Aircraft Set

Skywave weapons sets have been around for a few years. Modelers have been using them for years to upgrade their plastic and resin ships. This set is a modern Naval Aircraft set for USN Carriers. It is intended to replace the supplied aircraft on Testors/Italeria 1/720 Aircraft Carriers.
There are two identical sprues included with this set with a couple of white metal Super Hornets as a bonus. The standard S-13 set doe not include the Super Hornet, so look for the S-13S set if you want it. The top and bottom are shown in the scan on the right. The molding is quite good with very little flash. These spues are molded in clear plastic.

  • E2C Hawkeye
  • F-14 Tomcat (folded and deployed wings)
  • S-3 Viking
  • F/A-18 Hornet
  • F/A-18E Super Hornet (white metal)
  • Tow tractors
The Aircraft include landing gear and the appropriate extra fuel tanks or weapons pods. In the case of the Tomcat, Phoenix missiles are included.

A decal sheet is included with an abundance of markings. Most are the low visibility markings used on modern Air Wings. There are also markings for Spanish Hornets and Israeli Skyhawks. Tail markings are included as well. If you like that colorful look of early aircraft squadrons get the Skywave S-12 set instead.

Conclusions:

A nice set that greatly improves on the quality of those 1/720 Aircraft Carriers. This kit is Code # SWS13 and sells for $17.99 from Trident Hobbies. Check out the full line of Skywave aircraft sets on the website.
