The new Gallery Models 1/350 USS Wasp LHD-1 is a pretty nice kit and even includes a decent set of deck vehicles. However they are a bit simplistic and most advanced modelers will be looking for something more. Enter JAG with their new Amphibious LHD Deck Vehicle Set to save the day. Cast in resin with photo etch details, this set greatly improves on the kit supplied vehicles. | |||||||||||||||||||||||
RESIN | |||||||||||||||||||||||
The vehicles are mostly cast in high quality resin with very fine detail. A variety of deck vehicles are included with tow tractors, forklifts, and all with sharp detail. The crash crane is a model in itself and also uses a clear acrylic part for the cab. JAG even provides window shaped masks on adhesive paper to allow you to spray the part and peel away the mask for a clear canopy look. A nice touch. The crane includes some really nice wheels and tires with tread you can actually see. The pulley and gearboxes are amazing with the spokes of the pulley being cast open so you can see through it. Combine these parts with the photo etch below and you have one really cool crane. The various deck tractors are so cleanly cast that virtually no cleanup will be required. Just add the separate PE details, and paint. | Click images

Conclusions: The casting on this set is excellent, but that is what we have come to expect from JAG. These should draw the attention to the flight deck of your LHA. This is set #JAG303 with a price is $35.00 plus shipping cost. A great value for anyone wanting to super-detail their USS Wasp. |
