While looking for additional figures to add to a 1/350 USS Hornet (CV-8) I was building, I came across this set of 1/350 figures, WWII USS Aircraft Carrier Crews & Pilots, Set A (Normal Pose), from a company called "Tori Factory" out of Korea. Intrigued, I bought them. | |||||||||||

The packaging is a small reddish orange
box. Inside is a plastic bag with two print rafts with figures on them.
Also included is a very small slip of paper giving "parts information".
According to this, there are 142 figures across both print rafts. One of
the print rafts has "MIDWAY USS Navy" on it. The figures are in a variety of poses - walking, jogging (as on the way to their aircraft, not exercising), standing, pointing, saluting, one with paddles, a few scratching their heads, some crouching as if giving the "launch" signal. Some are supposed to be pilot, some deck crew. The detail is pretty good, the heads all look to be wearing the typical soft helmet that US air and deck crews wore during WW2. On the pilots you can make out what look to be Mae West vests, goggles and "earphones" on the helmets. The faces are non-descript. The print rafts are done in such a way that you should be able to break apart the rafts and separate the rows of figures, which will help with removing the figures from the rafts and painting. Nice touch! |

This is an interesting set of figures. I'm
curious to see how they'll look once painted and added to my USS Hornet
model. While the faces are a bit soft, the rest of the detail is
pretty good, and the variety of poses should help you depict a busy flight deck
if you are so inclined. I also like how the print rafts are made, to
facilitate painting and removal of the figures. Tori Factory also
produces another set of USN WW2 figures, but in that one, the figures have
"dynamic" (AKA, in action) poses.
This is Tori Factory's set FS-03A, WWII USS Aircraft Carrier Crews & Pilots, Set A (Normal Pose). The set retails for about $26.00 USD, and are available from BNA ModelWorld in Australia, which is where I purchased them from. Recommended for those building 1/350 USN carrier models. |
