As I have stated in a previous accessory review, one of the projects I am working on is my build of the Academy Models 1:350 scale Graf Spee kit. While I like the kit overall, it is admittedly lacking in detail in some parts. One example of a part that is practically devoid of any detail are the kit’s 533 mm enclosed torpedo tubes. As you can see in the photo of the Graf Spee torpedo tubes, the enclosures have several access hatches and other details. The Academy kit part is smooth, with no hatches or any inkling of detail. Thankfully, and to my delight, Swordfish Models offers a 3D printed pair of these torpedo tubes that is full of beautiful details.

THE PARTS
The torpedo tubes come on a printing raft with numerous thin attachment points. All you have to do is remove the parts, paint them and attach them to the kit’s deck. The numerous hatches, chocks and grab handles are all there. The Swordfish offerings are also little larger than the Academy kit versions and appear to be more spot on in terms of scale.

CONCLUSIONS
As you can see when compared to the Academy kit torpedo tubes, the Swordfish Models versions are far superior in terms of detail and are a welcome replacement. I frankly cannot comment on the Trumpeter kit’s parts in term of detail or lack thereof, but I am fairly sure that they would also be an improvement. The set runs for €9.95, which is approximately $10.75 US, and is a really good price for such an excellent 3D accessory that requires no assembly. Highly recommended.
