1/350 Kriegsmarine Life Rafts

| NorthStar Models has released a set of Kriegsmarine Life Rafts in 1/350, set NSA 350037, Kriegsmarine Life Rafts (Type SA1b-VW58). There are enough resin and photo-etch parts to make 50 life rafts. | |||||||||

| THE PARTS | |||||||||
| There are 50 resin rafts. The resin parts are nicely cast, with no visible flash. There is detail on both sides of the rafts. These rafts have much nicer detail than compared to the kits parts from Trumpeter, Dragon and Revell (l to r, below). NorthStar also makes another set of life rafts, which looks slightly larger than this version (below, right). | |||||||||

| There is one small photo-etch fret included, which has 50 photo etch parts. These are the nets for the interior of the raft. The rafts have a small opening cast into the interior for the PE to fit into. | |||||||||

| Instructions are a single small piece of paper. Parts are shown on one side, directions to assemble each raft are on the back. The directions are clear and easy to follow. | |||||||||
| CONCLUSIONS | |||||||||
| This a nicely done set of life
rafts. They should provide a nice upgrade from injection molded parts on
your Kriegsmarine vessels. The only thing you'll have to do is research
which Kriegsmarine ships used this style of rafts, so you can use these
upgrade parts. Looking at photos in various reference books, these
style of rafts seemed to be found mostly on destroyers.
