Kraken Hobbies has sent along another one of their new products for review. This one, in association with Red Devil Designs, is, the 1/700 Twin 40mm Bofors set. The 40mm gun needs no introduction to most ship modelers, especially those who like to build USN and RN subjects from the Second World War. For more information on what was widely considered the best AA weapon of World War II, check out navweaps.com, where you'll find that the first installation or a twin 40mm mount was on the destroyer USS Coghlan (DD-606), on 1 July 1942. | |||||||||

The packaging is in a large plastic
clamshell container, with the ten 3D printed rafts - one for each of the
twin 40mm bofors - secured to the bottom of the packaging with thick double
sided tape.
The set includes ten 3D printed 40mm twin bofors. The details are very fine, with sights, seats, barrels and rails all very well defined and very delicate. |

CONCLUSIONS | |||||||||
Modelers
building 1/700 USN ships, especially cruisers, destroyers and smaller,
will really like these guns. They are really finely printed,
and the number of weapons enclosed in the package are enough to equip multiple
models in this scale. I'm especially impressed with rails sights
and seats on these weapons. These will be easier to use than multi-part
photo-etch versions, and probably look better too. The hardest
part may be getting them off the print raft.
This is Kraken Hobbies/Red Devil Designs 1/700 Twin 40mm Bofors. It retails for $8.99 USD, and is available directly from Kraken Hobbies, who I'd like to thank for this review sample. Highly recommended! |
