1/350 8/55 Mk9 turrets for New Orleans class cruisers

| Kraken Hobbies has sent along another
one of their new products for review. This one, in association
with Red Devil Designs, is, the 1/350 New Orleans class 8/55 Mk9 Adjustable
Turret Set. The turrets are designed for modelers who are
converting their Trumpeter San Francisco to an Astoria, New
Orleans or Minneapolis, which had different turrets than the
other ships of the class. These turrets could also be used to upgrade
the turrets on resin kits of the New Orleans class as well.
The New Orleans-class cruisers are well known by ship modelers. They were handsome ships - probably the best looking heavy cruisers ever built for the US Navy - and did a lot of heavy fighting during the first year of the war in the Pacific. | NEW ORLEANS CLASS MK9 TURRETS | |||||||||||
| The packaging is in a large plastic
clamshell container, with the three 3D printed rafts - one for each of
the three sets turret and barrels - secured to the bottom of the packaging
with thick double sided tape.
The set includes three 3D printed turrets and three sets of triple gun barrels, enough to do one New Orleans-class cruiser. The printing on the turrets and barrels looks good. There is some nice details - like periscopes - on the turrets, and the breeches of the barrels are open. Compared to photos and drawings (I don't have a set of plans) the turrets look the part. Since there are no blast bags, the barrels can be adjusted to whatever elevation the modelers desires. |

Have an old Classic Warships/Yankee Modelworks New Orleans in the
stash, and want to upgrade the turrets? Then you'll need this set
to get the correctly shaped turrets. Kraken Hobbies also has
other accessories available to convert the Trumpeter 1/350 San Francisco
to a USS Astoria at the time of her demise.
