I'm not even going to pretend to attempt to
write a concise history of the Sherman tank. Long story short: It's one
of the most ubiquitous tanks of WWII, and is a much-built bit of armor
in the scale modelling world. When you ask someone what was predominate
at any given model show, the answer can often be, "Germans and Shermans"
for good reason. This is the M4A2 version of the Sherman, circa 1942.
The tanks are 3D printed, 12 of them on the support structure, printed as one-piece assemblies. Detail is sharp, and a pleasant surprise is that only one example of the set had a slightly warped gun barrel. A big issue with 3D printed parts can be the removal of said parts from the support structures, so I removed one as a test. The resin has just enough flex that nothing shattered when cut. Using small sprue cutters, I was able to easily remove the tank from the supports with no damage at all. There's not a lot to this set, so not a lot to say about them. They look great, with sharp detail, and will be a lot of fun to paint. Get out your fine paint brushes if you're going to do a camo scheme! The only thing I can really think of is that if someone were going to do a tiny tank battle diorama, it would be nice to have the turrets as a separate part so they could be rotated, but that's me really grasping for anything to critique.

CONCLUSIONS | |||||||
These are cool little Sherman tanks, perfect for deck cargo or dioramas
in 1/700 scale. Maybe the gun barrels could be replaced with brass wire
if desired, but since only one of the 12 examples I received had a warped
gun barrel, it's not that big of an issue. It's nice to see Combrig mounting
these in plastic blisters to keep them from sliding about, a trend I hope
they continue.
Highly Recommended. Thank you to Combrig Models for the review sample. As of this writing, they retail for approximately $15 US, wherever Combrig kits are sold. |
