1/350 La Galissoniere Class Detail Set

| Black Cat Models has sent along a
copy of their newest detail set for review. This set is 1/350
CK350008, La Galissoniere Class Detail Set. This set will enable
the modeler to to upgrade Trumpeter's new French light cruiser Marsellaise.
Included in the set are the following parts:

The packaging is in Black Cat's typical plastic clamshell
container. There are fifteen 3D printed runners included, all secured to
the bottom of the packaging with thick double sided tape, across three
packages. These are packed in a thin flip top cardboard box, with
the instructions, wrapped in bubble wrap. |

| MAIN
BATTERY TURRETS (X3) |
|
| Each of the turrets specifically matches
a turret on the ship: 1, 2 or 3. The details are very nicely
done, with raised details, including rivets, on the turret roofs, vertical
ladders on the turrets sides, as well as grab handles. Two small
print rafts contain the barrels, which have blast bags printed integral
to them. |

AA GUNS (X4) |
|
| These are printed as one piece.
The shields have rivet detail while the barrels are tiny and very thinly
printed. |

| 90MM AA GUNS (X4) |
| Each of these guns is three parts:
the base/mount, splinter shields and barrels. Details are very nice,
including seats printed to the bases and nice grab handles printed to the
splinter shields. |

| 550MM TORPEDO TUBES
(X2) |
| A pair of 550MM torpedo tubes are
included. They are printed as one piece. Again, the details
are well done, and the gizmos and mechanisms on the top of the tubes are
incredibly intricate. Very impressive. |

| 90MM DIRECTORS (X4) |
| More great details are found on these
directors, include grab handles, hatches, rivet detail and shutters for
the fronts of the directors. |

| 152MM DIRECTOR (X1) |
| The main battery director also has
really sharp details, with rivet details, a nicely done vertical ladder
and some doors with handles. |

|
| SEARCHLIGHTS (X4) |
| Four searchlights come with the kit
- they are very detailed, and a huge improvement over the kit parts. |

|
| SMALL AA GUNS |
| Not listed on the instructions, but
included in the kit are some smaller AA guns, including 2 13.2mm twin MGs,
2 25mm AA guns, and 1 37mm twin gun. The 25mm were found on the top
of the 152mm turrets. According to Black Cat, these were found after
some additional research, hence why they are included in the set, but aren't
listed on the instructions. |

| INSTRUCTIONS |
| A small,
four page booklet included with the set, with a parts manifest and details
on how to remove the parts from the print rafts. As mentioned, the
only thing not shown are the small AA guns, which were a late addition
to the set. Black Cat said they will consider revising the instructions
to include these. As these are 1:1 replacements for the kit parts,
no further instructions are needed. |

| CONCLUSIONS |
| I am really impressed with this set, in both the
level of detail and in the fact that you get just about everything you
need to update your 1/350 Marsellaise in one box. The 3D printed
parts, which are superbly printed and well detailed, are far superior to
the kit parts. Frankly, I think this set is a must have if you are
going to build this kit. I had planned to part with my Marsellaise
kit before receiving this set, but now plan on keeping it. Additionally,
this set is a bargain, being less expensive as a set than buying the parts
individually. Not to mention not all the parts included in the set
are not yet available separately. Highly recommended!
