Among the latest releases from Black Cat Models of France is a set of Hedgehog launchers. According to navweaps.com, these were the "This spigot mortar wasthe first ahead-throwing anti-submarine weapon of World War II in British service. More popular and more successful with the USN than with the Royal Navy, possibly because of the former's better sonar detection practices. The design was from the Department of Miscellaneous Weapons Development (DMWD) and testing took place with a dummy installation on HMS Westcott in 1941. Production began in late 1942 following a successful demonstration to PM Winston Churchill." While used by both the RN and USN, Black Cat lists this product under it's Royal Navy accessories. | ||||||||

The packaging is Black Cat's typical
plastic clamshell container. The 3D printed runner containing
the launchers is secured to the bottom of the packaging with double sided
tape, which prevents the runner from moving during shipping.
There are four hedgehog launchers, all on one runner, included in the package. The detail is, frankly, astounding. Each individual projectile is just that - an individual projectile. There is excellent raised detail on the sides of the launcher and on top of the launcher's cover, as well as a superbly defined hand wheel affixed to the cover. The fidelity of these parts is so fine, you have to put on a magnifier to really appreciate just how good these are. |

CONCLUSIONS | ||||||||
With each Black Cat product, I mention how the
print quality is very good, the details are superb. These little
hedgehog launchers take it to another level. I'm blown away
by the finesse of the projectiles in each launcher and the little hand
wheels on the launch covers. These will be a huge upgrade to
your ASW escorts.
This is Black Cat Models set AC350043, Hedgehog. The set retails for about $6.50 USD, and is available directly from Black Cat Models, or from some of our other fine sponsors. Enthusiastically recommended! Thanks to Black Cat Models for the review sample. |
