One of my favorite reference books is this book by noted
Naval author Norman Friedman. This one covers the United States Destroyers
from the earliest torpedo boats to the Spuane Class. Note only does it
cover the various destroyer classes, but it also covers the various design
concepts that were never built.
There are chapters on the wartime development and upgrades that some
of the Destroyer received. Plenty of wonderful drawings by A. D. Baker
III show the ships and how they compared to each other. The book not only
discusses how Destroyers developed, but also why they the developed as
they did.
I think this book is now out of print, but can still be found at some
book stores. If you find a copy, buy it. |
