Warship Modeler #2 is out. Here is a look at what's contained within the pages. The first issue was very good, and this next one is no disappointment. It is filled with reviews, photos, and plenty of nice detail drawings.
On the cover is Mike Ashey's 1/350 USS Pennsylvania BB-43.
Don't worry it there are more pictures and text describing his build. Mike
took the Trumpeter Arizona and modified it into a 1943 Pennsylvania. Another
featured ship is Alan McGriven's 1/192 USS Patterson. There are also plenty
of high resolution photo's of this ship in this issue.
A reviews section includes a good assortment of today's kits. The sample page on the right shows a typical review, this one of Midship Models new 1/700 Destroyers. The Patterson feature will come in handy if you are building one of these kits. Other ships and accessories are also featured. There even a section on 3D computer modeling with some stunning photo's. I hope to see more of this in future issues. |

US Navy camouflage is covered in one section, with info on the months
leading up to war. It includes some nice photography including the Arizona
in drydock in November 41.
A full page S-100 set of plans is include (sorry I can only scan half) with nice crisp lines. There are other drawings showing everything from 20 mm guns to IJN Navy doors. |

If your building that new Dragon Kidd Class DD, you will appreciate
this photo feature on the USS Chandler DDG-996. Lot's of nice close up
view showing many of the areas of the ship that modelers crave.
Other features such as a Page from the Scrapbook show a Liberty ship in color offloading supplies as Anzio beach. |

If you missed out on Classic Warship's now out of print USS San Francisco book, you will love these camo views of her illustrated by T.A. Flowers.
Conclusion: While many will argue that the internet has made such magazine obsolete. I would disagree with them. There simply is no substitute for high quality photo's and plans. Today's monitors can not reproduce images to the quality that printed media is capable of. Steve Wipers background with the Warship Pictorial series producing high resolution images for print shows in this second issue. This is a must have magazine for the ship modeler. |
