David Doyle's march through the Squadron Signal bookshelves continues; one of his latest conquests is a volume on quintesentially flying boat, the PBY Catalina.
This "In Action" book starts with a brief introduction and history, then a section for each of the primary types, starting with the XPBY-1 prototype, PBY-1, -2, -3, -4, -5, -5A, OA-10A, PBN-1, and finally the PBY-6A/ OA-10B. As is the usual practice, these sections rely on the great images and captions to tell the Catalina story.

This book has a great mix of color and greyscale images, spanning the service life of the Catalina. David Doyle understands the kinds of details hobbyists want to see, and selects his images and captions accordingly. Recommended!
