Telford 2011 ( part one)
by Jim Baumann |
What a bumper show this year for ship modelmakers!
The show was once again organised in a most professional manner by IPMS UK. As always the venue was the prestigious Telford International Centre with the show occupying 3 very large halls. The 2 minute silence at 11.00 am for Remembrance Sunday was marked at either end by the ‘Last Post ‘ and ‘Reveille’, played by the RAF Bugler and this proved to be a memorable and emotive event. A very international contingent from afar as Korea, Japan, Australia, USA, Canada, Russia and just about every country in Europe served for variety both in exhibits as well as Traders; the maritime orientated of whom were represented by: White Ensign Models, JB Models.EU, L’Arsenal, WMM , Pontos Models, YS Masterpieces, Revell, Airfix, MT Miniatures, among many other vendors.
Numerous new model ship kits and accessories were released at the show. The competition entry was of a very high standard this year, most especially in the ship Diorama class. The ship modelling SIG’S ( Special Interest Groups), namely Fine Waterline.com SIG, David Griffith’s ‘My Little Navy’, Battleship SIG, Aircraft SIG, Cruiser SIG and Small Warship SIG. were again laid out in one long line of tables which offered every type of modelship in a variety of scales.
A welcome guest and Telford first-timer was Horst Muerrel (http://cfp.muerell.de) of Germany who displayed his extensive collection of card coastal forces models.
The first batch of images shows some of the models exhibited on the club, Trader and Sig Tables. This year alas my photo quality is unfortunately somewhat patchy-in my eagerness I forgot to take with me both my customary Tripod and Polarising filter—hence there are some visible glass case reflections….
Hope to see more of you next year!
Some of the Competition model highlights will be shown in part Two
