Imperial War Museum Dazzle Display by George Hargreaves

On a recent trip to Britain we stopped at the Imperial War Museum to take in the temporary Camouflage exhibit. Here is what I found most interesting from the Dazzle section. The paintings/drawings of Ramellies, Isis and Duke of Edinburgh were all in the back under a stair well which demanded the use of flash. The colours appeared uniform and consistent from painting to painting. All three were behind glass and about 18 x 24 inches in size. The closer ups can be increased in size so that text on the painting can be read. The colours are that vivid and the mauve is a very soft colour. The model of the Q-Ship was not dated but its colours matched those in the paintings. As did the colours in the many dazzle pattern test models. Very, very interesting. Text in the display was very similar to Behrens, Roy R. book FALSE COLORS: Art, Design and Modern Camouflage.
