IPMS UK SCALEWORLD 2004 at Telford UK by Jim Baumann |
Once again this eagerly awaited annual model-show was held in two large halls at the Telford International Centre. Once again the weather, not untypical for late November in the UK , was cold and frosty at night and merely cold and damp during the day; this in no way was of interest to the many thousands of modelmakers who atttended this years show to look, meet old friends and buy, buy, buy.... the vendors on the whole reported a succesful show- many a happy--looking modelmaker was to be seen clutching an old/rare kit close to his chest!!
As usual a very large international contingent from as far afield as
the USA, Portugal, Malta, Italy, Japan , Czech Republic, Slovakia,Spain,
Switzerland, Argentina, South Africa, France,Holland,Germany and many more;
oh err, and the UK!!
I even exchanged pleasentries with a couple from Australia
who had planned their Europe trip to coincide with Telford...!
There was a vast variety of models shown both in type and quality. It was really great to see both Dr David Griffith and Fillipe Ramires from the MW message board enter their fine models in the competition. Hopefully we will soon see these beautiful ships photographed and described more extensively here at MW.
I went to Telford knowing that I had all the resin/plastic shiips I could ever want.... would not be buying anything... cheap show this time....
I bought 11 (!) resin ships and 3 x Seals models 1/700 IJN plastic kits and a veritable foundry of Brass Photoetch....
