The Order of Bath was founded by George I in 1725 for senior military or senior civil servants. As a member of the order, they received a stall in the Henry VIII Chapel at Westminster Abbey. A plaque with their family crest is placed above the stall. Nelson was installed in Sept 1797 and given stall #20. Other famous British military members who have received the Order of Bath include Wellington, Kitchener, Montgomery, Mountbattern. |
