The inaugural Micromodell Championship in Poland 1/2 September by Jim Baumann |
My accommodation ,food and transport was all kindly arranged and paid for by Sylwester and the Wielun Model club .
The hospitality was superb—and many intense modeling discussions took place in the evenings over a mass dinner encouraged no doubt by the local ‘amber nectar’.
I flew slightly roundabout route - flying from my local Southampton (UK) airport via Paris CDG and thence onwards to Warsaw. This was done primarily so as to avoid any complications at the Security stages with the transport of two small model ships in glass(!) cases - in a specially custom made wooden flightbox- as hand luggage…
I had learnt some stock phrases such as “very very Fragile”…., along with “ this box cannot under any circumstances be put in the hold” in both French and Polish…! As it happened I did have to open up the box in Paris—I guess that as one of the models – Henri IV-was a ‘Cuirasse Francaise ‘…may have compensated somewhat for my poor French with the Customs officials!
